Pencil on paper, backed with wood. Pictured here is a busy street in town lined by the Livery Stables and Half Moon Hotel, with horse drawn carriages coming and going across a covered bridge on the far right. What makes this sketch so impressive is the balance, composition, and perpective. Even as a simple sketch these three things are handled masterfully. The paper is age worn, and slightly torn around the edges. A very neat look into the processed before the incredible three-dimensional paintings.
